Ep 123: Why Women are Choosing to Have More Children with Catherine Pakaluk

Alex Bernardo
In this episode I talk with economist Catherine Pakaluk, who teaches at the Catholic University of America, about her brand-new book Hannah’s Children: The Women Quietly Defying the Birth Dearth, in which she gives an economic, social, political, and theological account of why many women are choosing to have multiple children. In this well-reasoned and researched book, she explains why western civilization has deprioritized childbearing, why many women are still choosing to have multiple children anyway, the economic and social impact of childbearing, and how this all relates to the Austrian theory of subjective value. She also explains why having and raising children is so important and offers advice to young people who are on the fence about having kids.
